The Grey Papers – DOE on Education

What are the government agencies saying about the buildup? What did the DEIS say about the buildup?  Read The Grey Papers. Short. Straight. In Their Own Words. compiled by We Are Guåhan

Summary:

  • There is projected to be almost 8,000 more students in our schools at the buildup’s peak.
  • This will create a demand for up to 532 more teachers.
  • DOE has to fill 300 vacancies each year, which means that in 2014 DOE will need to find over 800 new teachers.

Quote: “Upon the establishment of DDESS schools on Guam, many teachers from the Guam Department of Education were recruited to fill positions in schools for military dependents.  This resulted in GDOE not having adequate certified teachers just before school was scheduled to open.  Educators and community leaders are anticipating the same situation will occur when DDESS facilities increase.”
