March 21 – Weekly Update
Petition:
Congratulations everyone!!! Thanks to YOUR help, We Are Guåhan has collected over 11,000 signatures on the President Obama petition! That is an AMAZING feat considering that approximately 10,000 of those signatures were collected through personal face-to-face contact with individuals in our community. The online petition reached an incredible span of people from the CNMI, to Hawaii, the continental US, Europe and Asia. Our combined efforts not only reached the masses, but they also gained the attention of White House representatives. In fact, WAG has been contacted by the Associate Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement. WAG has also been invited to attend a stakeholders listening session with Nancy Sutley, of the White House Council on Environmental Quality. This would not have been possible without the combined efforts of ALL We Are Guåhan’s members.
President Obama’s Guam Visit:
It has been quite a rollercoaster ride these past couple of weeks preparing for the President’s visit to Guam. Unfortunately, the President has postponed his trip until June. That gives us three months to prepare for his rescheduled trip. Let’s continue to write to President Obama about the concerns of our island’s residents and encourage him to speak with ALL residents of Guam.
The Grey Papers:
“The Grey Papers” is a project that continues the groups efforts to disseminate information surrounding the DEIS even after the formal response period. The Grey Papers examine the formal responses submitted by various government agencies, professionals and businesses in order to share their findings with the community. Individuals, groups or agencies interested in sharing their DEIS responses may contact Gen Won Pat-Borja at genevievie@gmail.com
