Guåhan’s Collective Action Gets Things Done!
On a quiet Sunday morning, February 14, Guam Boonie Stompers and We Are Guåhan exemplified the island-wide spirit of inafa’maolek, working together to accomplish some real change with the Pagat cleanup. Between our two groups, we had over 50 volunteers who contributed over 200 collective hours towards the care of one of our cultural heritage sites; we want to thank everyone who contributed to this massive effort.
We welcomed parents, who, despite working late nights on Saturday, recognized the importance of modeling environmental stewardship. Another young man gave up his lunch hour from work to assist. A coach and his youth baseball players demonstrated their true team spirit by helping each other carry out trash.
This is just one example of the wonderful work our Guam community does on a daily basis, and it would behoove us all to remember that such kindnesses are not the rarity, but in fact part of an island heritage we all share. Saina ma’ase again for your work and commitment as we strive to protect our heritage!
